Meet Haim Tal
Born Harry Taub on 2/1/1940 in Bucharest, Romania, Haim Tal survived WWII and the Holocaust when he and his family were hidden in a local farmer's house. He arrived in Israel in 1950, serving in the Israeli Defense Forces in both the Six Day and Yom Kippur Wars.
Haim has spent decades preserving the stories of survivors so that future generations may never forget. The Fields of Ukraine is his telling of the story of Yosef Laufer — a young man whose extraordinary courage and whose father's unbreakable spirit allowed them to survive two years hiding in the fields and woods outside Zurawno.
Through this work, Haim honors not only the Laufer family but the entire lost community of Zurawno, ensuring their memory endures.
